3×3 Tournament Rules

  • Format: Each team plays every other team in its pool once (3 games per team)
  • Scoring
    • Win = 2 points
    • Loss = 1 point
  • Tiebreakers:
    1. Head-to-head result
    2. Point differential
    3. Points scored

  • Semifinals:
    • SF1: Group A 1st vs Group B 2nd
    • SF2: Group B 1st vs Group A 2nd
  • Finals & 3rd Place:
    • Winners -> Championship
    • Losers -> 3rd place match

  • Half Court, one basket           
  • 3 Players + 1 sub per team 
  • 15 second shot clock     

  • Inside arc = 1 point
  • Beyond arch = 2 points
  • Free throws
    • 1-point shot fould -> 1FT
    • 2-point shot fould -> 2FTs
    • Team fouls 7+ -> 2 FTs on every defense foul
  • First to 21 points wins if achieved before 15 minutes

Live Ball Begins When:

  • Ball is checked and handed back to offense
  • Ball is rebounded after a missed shot
  • Ball is stolen
  • Ball is cleared beyond the arc

Deab Ball Occurs When:

  • A basket is made
  • Referee whistles (foul, violation)
  • Ball goes out of bounds
  • End of period/game
  • During check-ball

After a Made Basket

  • No inbound
  • Defense immediately gets ball under the hoop
  • Must clear it beyond the arc

After Defensive Rebound, Steal, Block

  • Must Clear beyond the arc before shooting

After Violation, Foul, Ouf-of-Bounds

  • Check-ball at top of the arc

A team must clear the ball when they gain possession on defense.

A possession is cleared when:

  1. Player holds the ball with both feet outside the arc, OR
  2. A pass is made from inside -> to a teammate outside the arc.

Shooting without clearing the ball is violation.

Team Fouls

  • 6 fouls -> Next foul puts team in penalty
  • 7, 8, 9 fouls -> Offense gets 2 free throws
  • 10+ fouls -> 2 free throws + possession

Unsportsamlike / Technical

  • Unsportmanlike -> 2TFs + possession
  • Technical -> 1FT, no possession (game continues with check-ball)

  • No Jump balls
  • Alternating possession rule
  • Start of game decided by coin toss:
    • Winner chooses ball first OR which basket to defend.
    • First live ball begins with check-ball.

  • Only during dead ball before the check-ball.
  • Exchange is done simply by tagging, no horn or table approval needed.

  • 15 secods to attempt a shot.
  • Shot must hit the rim.
  • If the defense deflects the ball out of bounds, the offense gets a new 15.

Number and Duration

  • Each team is allowed 1 timeout per game
  • Duration: 30 seconds.

When a Timeout Can Be Called

  • Only during a dead ball situation.

  • Examples of dead-ball situations:

    • After a made basket (before clearing the ball)

    • After a foul (before free throws or after free throws if the ball is still dead)

    • After the ball goes out of bounds

  • Cannot call a timeout during a live ball possession (while the ball is being dribbled or passed).

  • 15 minutes playing time
  • If tied -> Overtime
    • First to 2 points wins
    • Every OT foul -> 2 free throws
